Walter G. Klimczak
I was born in New Jersey and spent
most of my childhood in Monroe, New York. When I was twelve, I
remember writing stories, stapling them together with hand-drawn
covers and passing them around during class at school. They were
bizarre tales inspired by memories of old Twilight Zone episodes
I would watch late at night. What I really wanted to do was
scare people. The crazier and more outlandish, the better. I
thought then (and still believe) that writing should be fun. I'm
not really surprised that I find myself writing about my
hometown. Monroe was an oasis in my life, an island in the woods
that surrounded me like a living sea. It's easy going back there
with words, resurrecting the past.
During my first year of college at The University of Maine,
I saw my first three short stories published. One was about
vampires and the other about a creature that travels between the
stars as 'pure thought', eating up other beings as it touched
down on unsuspecting planets. The third story was published in
The Maine Review. I knew then that this was definitely what I
wanted to do.
I have been teaching for over 13 years and love working
with children. I live with my wife and three children in
Atlanta, Georgia.
